The Art of Journaling
A blank page is one of the kindest mirrors we have.
Journaling is a conversation with yourself on paper. It helps us see our thoughts more clearly, notice patterns over time and give feelings somewhere to go.
Know thyself, on paper
The Delphic maxim asks us to know ourselves. A journal is one of the most practical ways to do it. Patterns that are invisible day to day become clear across a month of pages.
No rules
There is no right way to journal. Some people write freely for three pages each morning; others write a single sentence each night. The best practice is the one you will actually keep.
Prompts help
When the page feels too open, a prompt can help: What am I feeling? What do I need? What am I grateful for? What would I love to begin? Our members’ journal offers a new prompt each day, drawn from the Hermetic principles.
A practice
Write for five minutes tomorrow morning without stopping or editing. Don’t reread it until the end of the week. Then notice what it tells you.
