Earth: The Body and the Ground Beneath Us
Earth is patience, form and presence: the element that holds.
Earth is the element of the body, of form, patience and the physical world. In astrology it belongs to Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn; in the tarot, to the suit of Pentacles. Aristotle described it as cold and dry.
What earth gives
Earth gives us steadiness, reliability and the satisfaction of making things real. It is the element of craft, home, routine and the slow growth of a garden.
Too little, too much
With too little earth, life can feel unanchored, full of ideas that never land. With too much, we can grow heavy, cautious or stuck. Balance means being grounded without being rooted to one spot.
Caring for the body
Earth reminds us that knowing ourselves includes the body: how we rest, move and nourish ourselves. Small, steady habits are earth’s way.
A practice
Walk slowly for five minutes, feeling each step meet the ground. Notice the weight of your body and the support beneath you.
