The Wheel of Fortune: Trusting the Turn
Life turns in cycles. The Wheel invites us to find the still centre.
The Wheel of Fortune is card ten of the Major Arcana. In the Rider–Waite–Smith deck, a great wheel turns in the clouds, inscribed with letters, while the four living creatures of Ezekiel and Revelation, a lion, an ox, an eagle and a human, sit reading in the corners.
Cycles
The Wheel reminds us that nothing stays the same: rises follow falls, and falls follow rises. It is the Principle of Rhythm drawn as a picture.
The still centre
At the rim of a wheel, the movement is dizzying. At its hub, there is stillness. The card gently asks: where is my centre, the part of me that remains steady whatever turns?
Jupiter
The Golden Dawn linked the Wheel to Jupiter, the planet of growth and good fortune, and to the Hebrew letter Kaph.
A practice
Ask: “What cycle is turning in my life right now, and what helps me stay centred as it turns?” Write one steadying practice you can return to.
