The Star: Hope After the Storm
After the Tower’s upheaval comes the quiet healing of the Star.
The Star is card seventeen of the Major Arcana, and it follows the dramatic Tower. In Pamela Colman Smith’s painting a woman kneels by a pool beneath a great eight-pointed star, pouring water onto the land and into the pool.
Renewal
After upheaval, the Star brings calm, healing and hope. The water flows freely again. It is one of the most peaceful cards in the deck.
Giving freely
She pours from both jugs without holding back. The card suggests that healing often comes through generosity, to ourselves as well as others.
Aquarius
The Golden Dawn linked the Star to Aquarius, the sign of vision and community, and to the Hebrew letter Tzaddi.
A practice
After a difficult season, ask: “What gives me hope today?” Write three things, however small. Hope grows when we name it.
