Cardinal, Fixed and Mutable: Three Ways of Moving
Every season begins, holds and releases. So do we.
Each of the four elements appears in three signs, and each sign has a mode: cardinal, fixed or mutable. Together they describe three ways energy moves through a season, and through a life.
Cardinal: beginning
Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn begin the seasons at the equinoxes and solstices. Cardinal energy initiates. It is the spark that starts things.
Fixed: sustaining
Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius fall in the heart of each season. Fixed energy holds steady, deepens and persists.
Mutable: releasing
Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces close each season and carry it into the next. Mutable energy adapts, refines and lets go.
The rhythm in us
Most of us find one mode easier than the others. Some love beginnings but struggle to finish; others hold steady but resist change. The Principle of Rhythm reminds us that every cycle needs all three.
