Vibration: Nothing Rests

Our moods and energy are always moving. The third principle reminds us we can choose the direction.

“Nothing rests; everything moves; everything vibrates.” The third Hermetic principle describes a world in constant motion. Whatever its original authors intended, we can take something simple and kind from it: no feeling is permanent, and no state is fixed.

States, not identities

We often speak of moods as if they were who we are: “I’m an anxious person”, “I’m just not motivated”. Vibration invites a different language. Anxiety, flatness and joy are states that move through us. They rise and fall, and with care, we can influence which way they move.

Raising your state

Bob Proctor often spoke of the law of vibration in terms of feeling: the emotional state we live in tends to draw us towards matching actions and outcomes. One practical lesson is to notice your state before you act. A difficult email written from frustration reads very differently from one written after a walk and a few slow breaths.

Small things shift our state more than we expect: music that lifts us, time in nature, a kind word, gratitude written down, a glass of water and fresh air. None of these are grand. All of them work best when we use them on purpose.

Attitude as practice

Thinking Into Results calls attitude “the magic word”, and it is closely related. Attitude is the composite of our thoughts, feelings and actions, our vibration made visible. It is not something we either have or lack. It is something we can practise.

A practice

Three times today, pause and ask: “How would I describe my energy right now, honestly?” Then ask: “What is one small thing that would lift it a little?” Do that one thing. By evening, you may notice that your day has a different tone, not because life changed, but because you did.
